HMO Coalesces a Gamut of Experiences, Emotions, and Genres In New EP 'Eternity In An Hour'

Intertwining life experiences, tribulations, and human emotion, Australian musician and producer HMO draws on his past, present and future to craft Eternity in an Hour - the latest EP from the Gerringong MC.

Releasing singles 'Shadows' and 'Hate Speech' in 2020, and following them with 2021 single 'Fake (Feat. Gee Mary),' HMO has been on a roll, garnering radio airplay and attention from across the country.

With the launch of Eternity in an Hour, these singles have been recontextualised, supplementing his new tracks as a consolidated project that explores themes ranging from the hardships of life, love, and loss. The EP exists as a holistic work; bookended by 'Outer' and 'Inner,' two halves of the same whole, and framed with catchy riffs, dynamic arrangements, and marvellous hooks that grab your ears from the first bars.

"Outer and Inner are kind of one concept track that detail the journey of love that you endure with your soul mate. Essentially written over many years, they culminate in the feelings I now have in my relationship and my feelings surrounding the imminent birth of my first child in the midst of a pandemic."

And while HMO's rap vocals sit front and centre of each track, punctuated by clever lyricisms and occasionally supplemented by guest vocalists, it's the rich instrumentation that sets this EP's tracks apart from similar artists. HMO's production background quickly becomes evident, with each track overflowing with personality, style, and a distinct fullness that reverberates throughout each song. It's not difficult to notice HMO's influences throughout his music. With a foundation in hip hop, the EP, as well as his past tracks, also draw on a fusion of electronic, funk, soul, blues, and even reggae.
