Australian Duo Roses in Hand's Latest Single 'Paradise' Is The Perfect Send-Off To 2021
Aussie duo Roses in Hand seem to have traversed the spectrum of musical genres, from acoustic pop to jazz rock to symphonic ballads. Having recently won numerous songwriting awards, the two halves of the band - Jessica Allen and Samuel Burrell - have established themselves as an electro-pop powerhouse pair with the release of their latest single, Paradise.
Chaos and insecurity have been noticably recurring themes in the recent works of Australian artists recently, with many parts of the country only recently emerging from various levels of lockdown. Paradise, however, is about optimism - tackling the beauty and difficulty of feeling insecurity amongst the chaos of reassurance.
"This is my reassurance song - telling myself that I am worthy," explains Allen. "[It's] about having everything you want right in front of you, but feeling like you don't deserve it."
The message rings clearly, punctuated by staccato synth melodies, powerful vocals, and a delicate balance of electric guitar gliding across the driving beats that act as a backbone to the track.
Roses in Hand have taken cues from some of 2021's biggest pop sensations. Songwriting and production elements from Adele, Tones and I, Dua Lipa, and Katy Perry all echo through the track, but rather than feel derivative, coalesce into a refreshingly electrifying pop smash that feels like a celebration of the genre, beckoning to be played at a nightclub, party, or anywhere equipped with a dance floor. Fortunate it is, then, that Paradise drops only a fortnight before New Year's, as it feels like a song that is nothing less than essential in everyone's New Year's Eve playlist, sending off 2021 after a long year of turmoil and uncertainty.
